Archbishop Aris Shirvanian is the director of the Ecumenical & Foreign Relations of the Armenian Patriarchate, Jerusalem.
He was born in 1934 in Haifa, Palestine (presently Israel). There he received his primary education but also went to live in Bourj Hammoud, Lebanon.
In 1952, he entered the Theological Seminary at the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and graduated in 1957, becoming a member of the Brotherhood of St. James and was ordained as a celibate priest. During the last decades he travelled extensively and had lived and served in many different countries as the US, Canada, India, Germany, etc.
In 2006 he was elevated to the rank of Archbishop by the Pontifical Encyclical of the Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II.
Today Archbishop Aris is not only the director of Ecumenical and Foreign Relations for the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem,Israel. He also serves as the official spokesperson to the media for the Patriarchate. In addition to these duties, he lectures on Theology at the Jarangavoratz Theological Seminary.
